Spruce Pine’s Municipal Parks

Riverbend Park: Stroup Street (Under Construction)
Brad Ragan Park: 293 Laurel Creek Court
- Reservations for picnic shelters are accepted from April—September with Town Hall at (828) 765-3000.
- Admission to our parks is free, with a nominal charge for admittance to the swimming pool at Brad Ragan Park during the summer.
- Facilities available at Brad Ragan Park include picnic shelters, playgrounds, basketball courts, tennis courts, multi-purpose court, dog park, Mineral City Mile trail, and swimming pool.
- Park hours at Brad Ragan Park are from 8:00 a.m. until dusk.
Mission and Vision:
The Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Department for the Town of Spruce Pine is responsible for the planning, development, maintenance, and promotion of the Town’s parks, recreational facilities, and public spaces. The department works to provide safe, accessible, and well-maintained amenities while offering programs and opportunities that enhance the quality of life for residents of all ages. From daily use of parks and playgrounds to community events and recreational initiatives, the department plays a central role in supporting an active and connected community.
In addition to parks and recreation services, the department leads efforts to position Spruce Pine as a destination for outdoor recreation and cultural tourism. Through destination marketing, event development, and regional collaboration, the department works to attract visitors, support local businesses, and strengthen the Town’s economic vitality. The department also administers the Main Street program, guiding downtown revitalization efforts, supporting small business development, and fostering a vibrant, welcoming downtown environment.
The department places a strong emphasis on partnerships, working closely with local organizations, regional agencies, and community stakeholders to expand opportunities and maximize resources. With a focus on long-term planning and stewardship, the Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Department is committed to preserving the character, natural assets, and sense of place that make Spruce Pine unique while continuing to invest in its future.
