Mayor's Welcome Message
Welcome, Friends!
Nestled along the North Toe River in a high valley between some of the most well-known peaks on the Eastern seaboard – Roan Mountain, Mount Mitchell, and Grandfather – Spruce Pine is perfectly poised for all manner of outdoor adventure. Hiking trails, river runs, ski slopes, scenic drives and motorcycle routes are all easily accessible. Our four distinct seasons offer ever-changing variety.
While the beautiful landscape is reason enough to visit or call it home, Spruce Pine offers so much more. Our history as the area’s hub for commerce dates back to the turn of the last century when the Clinchfield Railroad came through. Explore the local restaurants, shops, galleries and craft studios to discover the independent and resourceful spirit of the Appalachian settlers alive and flourishing. We also offer more opportunities to experience our friendly mountain culture at our annual festivals, tours and indoor markets.
More than anything, Spruce Pine is resilient and revitalizing. We’re a strong community that supports one another. It is our goal to grow with purpose, preserving our values — peaceful pace of life, pride in the work you set your hands to, and good company.
Many towns may profess their uniqueness but come see for yourself that Spruce Pine is truly a rare treasure.
For the Love of Spruce Pine,
Mayor Beth Holmes
